Contest: Faction NPCs

Hey everyone!

Our newest contest will leverage the creativity of our community for NPC creation. Specifically, we want to flesh out some of the mid-range leadership in our factions. For example, the Helmites have a leader (the Abbott), but no other NPCs of importance beneath them. That's where we want you guys to come in!

Show us your creativity! Remember, we like flawed individuals, too. NPCs don't have to be shining examples of heroics or villainry. They can be conflicted and flawed in ways that affect their reactions and personality.

Below is the template we'd like you to use for submissions. Please send in as many as you like. You can submit them to me or Uri via private message. We'll vote on our favorites (there will be many winners, I'm sure!) and put them in-game by the end of January. Winners will receive a signus or a half-level's-worth of XP (no more than 5,000).

Can we win multiple times, thereby winning the reward multiple times?

Multiple submissions will be taken into consideration, sure. I'll say this--if you win more than once, you can get the reward for each win. However, you cannot apply the award more than once to any one character.

Here is an example of an NPC no longer in-use:

Name: Xithis
Title(s): Malagent
Location: Deceased
Birthplace: Unknown
Age: 67
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Deity: Talona
Alignment: CE
Classes: Cleric/FS

Quick Traits:

(1) Fanaticly devoted to Talona
(2) Mad man

Summary:

Xithis is the very archetype of the driven and lucid madman. His devotion to the lady of poison is absolute, and he lives only to do her will and spread her word.

As a child Xithis was ostracised and mocked by the people of his village in the heartlands; it seemed that wherever he spent too much time, people, crops, and livestock would become ill. The locals thought him cursed and his parents had to keep him essentially locked up within their house for fear of what the superstitious villagers might do.

After he had reached adolescence, a genuine plague came to the small town and surrounding farmlands, followed by wild eyed preachers bringing the word of Talona. The villagers refused to submit to the demands of the preachers, and the town was effectively wiped out by disease, but Xithis was unaffected.

When the townspeople were either dead or had fled in the face of the plague on their lands, the Talonan preachers found the boy living among the diseased remains of the town, laughing gleefully at the bloated and fly-ridden corpses of those who had ostracised him. The ragged priests took this and the boys story as a sign and took him with them to teach him the ways of the Mistress of Disease.

He took naturally to the faith, and has served faithfully for over half a century since.

Faction(s):

Talonans

Significant Relationships:

Ulrik Morbi and Marieka Nightshade (his lieutenants)
Neradnal (assisted with a major ritual)

Status: Supposedly killed in the Cube Event. His death and the events around it made a mountain collapse and created Shar's Abaddon.

Sorry if this is an odd question, but is there a list of the different groups/factions you want NPCs for somewhere? I'm kind of new to the server, so not really sure what all the factions and groups are, let alone what they need in the way of NPCs. I love character creation, especially backgrounds and personalities, and would love to give this a try. I'm just needing a little bit of a starting point as far as what the devs/dms are looking for.

A fair question! I think there is a list on the Sundren Wiki (link at the top of the forums). Look for "Organizations" there.

Do you need something for the Wardens anymore? I was writing up stuff and working on relationships and such... but it seems that's all already been devised for the Wardens with your new thread on the subject, PL.

It is partially written. The Wardens specifically need lore and NPCs for the Temple of Umberlee as well as the ranger fort.
