Can anyone tell me why I cannot access Arcane Trickster?

I've just made Level 9. My relevant stats are: Male Human Rogue 3/Wizard 5 before leveling. I have Lore 8, need 7;Disable Device 11 need 7; Tumble 10 need 7; Spellcraft 16 need 4. I have the Sneak Attack +2D6 and can cast 2 Third Level spells.

When I try to level my character, Arcane Trickster is not available. In everything I've been able to read there is no minimum total level requirement. I seem to fulfill all the requirements and yet am not able to take a level in Arcane Trickster.

You might say that what did make it back had a head start over the rest of his body.

As an example, Tery Mard advised Sita to report Xaayne's attack on them to the authorities. I've never been completely sure about this. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Killing vs. Intimidation vs. Subdual

Hello, I would like to ask what do you think about killing as a solution of problems. I have to admit, that I play the evil guys, but even though I think I am an angel in comparison to some "good" guys, who act like murdering machines.

If my toon as a poor thin girl says something, what could make somebody angry, the answer .. no I am not exaggerating .. ends in 80 percent in the try to kill or killing my toon. Seriously most of you guys, good or bad, would look like poor sociopathic murderers in the eyes of ordinary people. I can't even remember, when anybody tried to use the itimidate skill, instead of killing me. Actually I strongly believe I was intimidated only once and it was the goblins in the Sharan hills :D.

The second thought is using killing vs. subdual in PvP. There are situations, when it is perfectly logic - guy pursues a vampire, is killed in PvP, her friends find her body and resurect her with the help of the priestess. Perfect, flawless.

On the other hand, you meet guy, she kills you because you said some stupidity or for whatever reason, you return from the hell, but because you do not remember what happend, yep amnesia, you can't take a lesson from such a killing and it could end in circles. If the killed guy would be only subdued in such a conflict, she would remember everything and she would know - tadaah you've learned your lesson.

Also being killed in some situations is for the story .. odd. I was killed by a guy, I thought he was friendly to me, but I did not remember it of course. What to do the next day when we'll meet? Either he acts like anything happens and we have good relationships again, because I don't remember it, so I don't care, or he suddenly acts like my enemy, but I'm confused and not aware why. Odd.

Sometimes good aimed slap could be pretty reasonable solution of such a conflict. So what do you think about it? Shouldn't be death the last solution and not the only and first?

Dear Mister Torgar,

My sister and I were sitting at the camp fire at the Second Wind Inn. The hin with the large axe known as Xaayne was being very hostile to us with his words. He accused my sister and I of being demons. He was pacing around, holding his weapon. He did not like the fact that I was whispering with the man by the name of Grann, and did something magical to roar very loudly and cause damage to myself and a couple of others.

He then proceeded to call my sister and I demons once more, and threatened us with violence. When we tried to defend ourselves, he flew into a rage. I cast a spell to hide myself and my sister, and ran so he could not hear me. A good friend of mine, Darius and my brother, Samuel came to our defense. But the hin killed them with one hit of his axe.

I then attempted to use a spell of mine, hold person, to stop him from his killing spree. The spell failed, and my invisibility faded, revealing myself to him. He took one look at me, and charged right towards me, a look of death in his eyes. I ran for my life, and as I ran I felt the blade slice into my back, nearly killing me. I was thankfully a tad bit faster than him, and I was able to flee to safety.

This is my report on the matter, and I thank you kindly for looking into matters. My sister and I both have our papers allowing us passage in Sundren because we are tieflings.

Sadie.

Latest Bioware DLCs (September 2010)

I haven't been around of late because around September 7th, Bioware released two new DLCs for great games that I owned: Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2....

I haven't been around of late because around September 7th, Bioware released two new DLCs for great games that I owned: Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2.

I thought I'd share my impressions on them.

Witch Hunt, the new Dragon Age DLC, costs about 7 USD. The premise is to find out what happened with Morrigan and tie up whatever loose ends you might have with her.

Dragon Age was a good game, but I wasn't fond enough of it to go splurge in DLCs or to go get the Awakening expansion; even Dragon Age 2 merely mildly intrigues me at this point - I guess the Dragon Age IP itself hasn't hooked me enough for me to look forward to sequel, even though I have good memories of the game. However, my first foray in the game had my main character hold Morrigan as his love interest so I was inclined to see how it'd be resolved.

After I reinstalled my copy of Dragon Age, I started out with another DLC named "Return to Ostagar", which revisits events early on in the game. Brief adventure romp that was enjoyable, if unfortunately buggy (had to check walkthroughs to know how to get around the bugs for proper completion - it was a bit lame to see that this not so recent DLC had never been patch fixed since).

After that, I imported my character into the Witch Hunt campaign. first thing I noticed was that my Warden commander's armor (from the Warden Keep free DLC) hadn't been imported along, leaving my noble male human stark naked aside from underwear. After reimporting my character in with some manageable 'emergency' armor (I stole Sten's juggernaut plate, heh), I went on the adventure the latest Dragon Age DLC offered.

I don't want to go into spoilers over the story presented, but frankly, the story offered is paltry. The playthrough of Witch Hunt was underwhelming, and did more than not match its hype - it was buggy and the plot was very shallow, with the adventure venues being recycled ones. When you do get to dealing with Morrigan, it turns out that few of your earlier choices are being taken into account (which is a big turn off considering the main lure of even getting this DLC) - all of that clocking in between one to two hours of gameplay.

By contrast, the short-and-buggy Return to Ostagar offered about as much action. The free Warden's Keep DLC held significantly better environments, story and interaction.

My advice? Don't bother buying the DLC. It's not even worth being curious about trying it out. Bioware usually provides quality content... but this is unfortunately not it.

* * *

Mass Effect 2's latest new DLC, Lair of the Shadow Broker, had severe birthing pains for PC users, as the hefty 1.5+ gig DLC (costing roughly 10 USD) was released late, then the version they released had a faulty patcher which made it impossible to actually go and play it. Within the day, though, folks at Bioware straightened things out and managed to get out a proper patcher executable.

Fortunately (and in contrast to Witch Hunt), "Lair of the Shadow Broker" offers 3 to 4 hours of gameplay that definitely lives up to its asking price and hype. The locales offered are top notch quality, the interaction and banter you get with your old squad member Liara are great (and sometimes humorous) especially if you've known her since ME1 and had her as a love interest; she's come a long way from the nerdy and awkward asari scientist you find on Therum and the DLC fleshes her out much more believably, building upon her more hard-bitten demeanor as her information broker incarnation in a manner I could now better relate with.

In my opinion, the gameplay experience Lair of the Shadow Broker delivers goes so far as to rival Mass Effect 2's exciting finale with the Normandy going through the Omega 4 relay to take out the Collectors (it's as good as Mass Effect 2 can provide). The mission also adapts fairly well to wether you complete it before or after the 'suicide' mission.

I think it was well worth the money (you can go to the movie theater with a bag of buttery popcorn and a soft drink for this much - but I'd consider this DLC a better investment). Just so you get the idea... when I started it, I was actually in a foul mood due to having had a bad day and having downloaded a faulty version earlier, but within 30 minutes I was hooked and I was quite enjoying myself.

Really? Zoning ends pvp? How does this effect my character in game? Some reason I have to justify my character not continuing a persuit into a tavern because his foe zoned. Would a cop stop if a bank robber who shot his partner went inside of a building? I can understand not attacking someone until they have loaded the next area, and have a chance to act... Meta gaming rules for meta gaming situations... But to stop someone with in character reason with out of character rules is plain stupid. I purpose the rules be altered to prevent attack during zoning but continued once both players have loaded and have a chance to react. The rules state pvp can't be refused, but this meta gaming zoning rule prevents it.

A bit of a retro suggestion, but...
How's about we script these little fellas into random treasure piles?

Rot Grub

Rot grubs are 1-inch long vermin found in carrion, dung, and other such garbage and organic material. Their skin color is white or brown.

COMBAT
When a living creature contacts an area (dung heap, offal, etc) infested with rot grubs, a successful Spot check (DC 15) can be made to notice and completely avoid the grubs. If failed, the grubs contact the victim’s skin and burrow into the flesh.
Burrow (Ex): A rot grub secretes an anesthetic when it bites. A burrowing grub can be noticed if the victim succeeds at a Wisdom check (DC 15). If successful, the victim sees strange rippling beneath his skin. If failed, the creature does not notice the grubs.
A burrowing grub deals 2d6 points of temporary Constitution damage each round. At Constitution 0, the victim dies. The grubs then look for a new host. During the first two rounds, a burrowing rot grub can be killed by applying fire to the infested skin or by cutting open the infested skin with any slashing weapon. Either method deals 2d6 points of damage to the victim, but kills the grubs. After the second round, only a remove disease can kill the grubs as they burrow to the victim’s heart and devour it (still dealing 2d6 points of temporary Constitution damage each round).
Tremorsense (Ex): Rot grubs can automatically sense the location of anything within 20 feet that is in contact with the ground.
 Vermin:Immune to all mind-influencing effects.

Rumors circulate of an attempt to set fire to the Kelemvorite temple in Sestra.

A mob of disgruntled Sestrans armed with pitchforks and torches gathered outside of the temple shortly after sun up, they demanded that the Vampire being held captive inside be drawn out into the daylight.

A group of adventurers apparently stood against the good citizens, defending the evil undead creature against proper justice.

During the confrontation a firebomb was thrown, damage was averted by a one-eyed elf.
