How Do I Achieve Epic Levels?

What is the formula for success to get a 20th level character to Epic levels? I have three, almost five characters at 20th level, which got me thinking… what does a person do that allows them to get to 21st, etc levels?

Since any experience gained after 20th level must come from a DM… I tried to put experience into context. I began playing on Sundren in April 2009 from Central Europe. Since that time I have been in approximately nine DM events. Though I have been in game at least 25 times when a DM has came on and shouted … “anybody want anything let me know.”

I rarely if ever ask for anything because I asked for an event once and ended up being a little too specific. I know DM events are the key to success… and I know our DM staff is very accommodating with events. So, what is the formula for achieving Epic levels?

Play only one character?

Schedule DM events?

Please… I really would like to know because I looked up how much experience a character needs to make 23rd level: 253,000 points. That is 63,000 experience points that can only be secured from DM events.

In my limited experience the most experience I secured in a DM event was 1,500 points. My low is about 500 experience points. That translates to between 42 and 163 DM events to get 63,000 points. How is this possible?

Cheers!

Are there any plans for new factions in the future, perhaps in the Second Sundering? Some character archetypes (chaotic good heroes, for example) don't have a faction they can really identify with. The Triad is far too rigid, and religious, for such characters.

Though there are no Harpers in Sundren, something sort of like them would be great to have. Mostly-heroic people who fight evil by any means necessary, including things lawful types would not agree with.

I'd love to see a splinter faction of the Moonstars in Sundren, for example, which were basically more badass version of the Harpers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonstars

Edit: It's kinda odd palemasters can summon elite vampires...i've read about pnp and palemasters can summon a variety of undeads with bows/or sword+shield.. would be neat if the summon greater undead Elite vampire was changed for something that makes more sense

I've never actually played pnp even though i wished i could, so please don't flame me i've been reading about palemaster pnp on the net and it's a class i love so i thought i could suggest things.. was pnp 3.5

The light from the fire place flickered across the small dark room, Gerion sat in the only chair in the room, the smell of warmed wine filled the room.
Gerion repeated the words "Iron, Honor, Loyalty" as he removed the old bandages from his right arm, the wound had begun to fester with a loud sigh he got up from the chair, picked up a cup from the floor and headed to the small cauldron of boiling wine in the fireplace.
"what has the world come to, when a Frey has to live like this" he said out loud as he filled the cup, he headed back to the chair carefully placing the hot wine on the floor, before finding his knife and a small leather, after rolling the leather together he bit down on it, before he began removing some of the festering scabs from the wound, with a pained expression on his face he finished, and picked up the hot wine and poured it into the wound, his body twisted as the pain went through his body, the cup fell to the floor spilling the contents, he quickly wrapped some new bandages around the arm.

As he sat there his thoughts went towards his new life as a sellsword, several of the people he had met over the weeks in the Sundren, none had inspired much confidence or seemed worth working for in the long run.

Vorac the dwarven business man payed well enough, yet if he was worth serving in the long run, was still very questionable.

Al-Bah seemed smarter then any half orc should be, and he demanded a royal fee for is services from Vorac, although the two are funny together, the chances of them working together is very slim.

Most of the others he had met, had not made much impression on him as of yet, theyre names eluded Gerion most of the time.

He spat out the leather, as the pain slowly faded he looked around the room, "So this is how it is now" he said and shook his head, things could only go up from here he thought, as he tryed to regain his strenght and get up.

Roleplaying 3.5E Class Abilities missing from NWN2?

I'm going to speak from the Shaman perspective here, since that's the class I'm playing on my main character, but this applies to a lot of other classes as well. A lot of class abilities are missing from NWN2 that are present in the 3.5 sourcebooks, simply because there was no mechanical use for them in NWN2.

For the Shaman, we're talking about these three, yoinked from the Spirit Shaman entry of Complete Divine:

Quote:

Wild Empathy (Ex): Guided by insight into animal spirits, a spirit shaman can use body language, vocalizations, and demeanor to improve the attitude of an creature of the animal type. This functions like a Diplomacy check to improve a person's attitude. The spirit shaman rolls 1d20 and adds her spirit shaman level and her Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. Typical domestic animals start as indifferent, and typical wild animals start as unfriendly.

To use wild empathy, the spirit shaman and the animal must be within 30' of each other and able to study one another. A typical check takes 1 minute. This ability cannot be used to influence magical beasts.

Quote:

Guide Magic (Su): Starting at 10th level, as a free action, a spirit shaman can assign a spirit guide the task of concentrating on a spell or spell-like ability that is maintained through concentration. The spirit shaman can act normally while the spirit guide concentrates on the spell. A spirit guide can concentrate on only one spell at a time. If necessary to maintain the spell, the spirit guide makes Concentration checks for the spirit shaman, using the spirit shaman's normal Concentration modifier. A spirit guide does not have to make Concentration checks for circumstances such as the spirit shaman taking damage. The spirit itself is not present for anyone to interrupt or otherwise interact with.

Quote:

Exorcism (Su): Starting at 13th level, as a full-round action, a spirit shaman can force a possessing creature or spirit out of the body it inhabits. To exorcise a possessing creature, the shaman makes a class level check, adding any Charisma modifier, against a DC of 10 + the possessing creature's HD + its Charisma modifier, if any. If the result equals or exceeds the DC, the spirit shaman succeeds in forcing the possessor from the body, with the normal results based on its method of possession. A spirit so exorcised cannot attempt to possess the same victim for 24 hours.

It's obvious why these abilities are missing in NWN2; they are abilities that only really apply with roleplaying, and each is extremely situational. I'm not proposing we try to give them any scripted function at all, as that would be pretty pointless.

I'm asking how DMs feel about players using (or asking to use) such missing abilities, either during quests or events that involve a DM or just out and about when roleplaying with fellow players. As long as it's in the source material, is it okay to assume it's just an unlisted ability?

Disclaimer: I am NOT a writer by any stretch of the imagination. I have never had any formal education in writing other than what you would normally get from grades 1-12, and that was a LONG time ago. So please dont laugh too hard. Also I am open to constructive criticism to be better at this sort of thing. Thank you.

Magus Dante' Swift sat in his room reflecting on his recent life. The sounds of the sea gulls just outside is window have somehow always calmed him when his mind had been troubled. His time in Sundren has been interesting to say the least. He has met many people, from the lowliest of peasants to the highest ranking Legion officers. After being in Sundren for nearly two years, he received a bit of formal training from a colleague known as Yevelian the Grey. Yevelian was kind to him, and gave him a marginal amount of help, but Dante' realized that almost everything he knew he learned himself.
Dante' settles back in the comforts of his chair by the window, listening to the gulls and the quiet lapping of the waves against the wooden hulls of ships docked at the port. He closes his eyes and momentarily goes back in time, in his thoughts.
That night at the fire by the Second Wind Inn, he had just returned from the Mossdale Forest with a group of people on a mission attempting to keep some Orcs in check. That particular Mission as he recalled wasn't very successful. He was dressing some wounds, picking Orc fur off his robes and adjusting the many pouches of things he carried with him for such excursions when he heard two female voices that he had previously been ignoring speak the words Vellik Act. His eyes picked out the two across the fire immediately. A blonde woman and a redhead. Both very attractive. He listened a bit more but they never repeated those same words again. After making himself presentable he walked over. "They call me Dante'." he said in his way of greeting folks. They both stopped and looked up at him from the bench they sat on. The blonde spoke first "Oh, hello My name is Eahmil and this is my good friend Treena." The two then looked at each other and smiled. Dante' didn't miss the fact that they both sat very close to each other. Closer than one would expect of two people who are just travelling companions. Dante' thought they may be sisters and then let the thought pass. "I don't normally intrude upon others private conversations, but in this case I must." He looks to Eahmil. "I overheard you use the term Vellik Act?" "Uhmm yes I did, why?" she asked. Dante' thinks a minute, "Where did you hear that?" he asks. She looks a bit perplexed and plainly states "From a man in The Military Ward when I registered for it." Dante' takes an step back. "You registered under the Vellik Act?" "Yes" She replied. Dante's mind swirled, but he forced himself to remain calm. "You are Banite then?" he asked. "No" she replied. "Ah, then you must be Sharran?" he accused. At this point he noticed the red haired woman called Treena stand up. She walked up to him and demanded. "Who are you to accuse her of worshipping Vile Gods?" Dante' looked from one woman to the next. Treena livid with rage and Eahmil on the verge of tears. "But, but.." he stammered. "She said she registered under the Vellik Act!" Now Eahmil yells, "Yes I did, I thought all newcomers to the land of Sundren had to do so." Dante' lets out a long breath, visibly relaxing and he tries to smile. His voice shakes just a little. "No, they dont. Only those that worship Bane, Shar and Tallona. " "So you do not worship any of those?"
Eahmil shakes her head with a numb expression on her face. "I, I just thought I had to register." she replied meekly. Treena walks over and places an arm around Eahmil. Dante' looks over his shoulder to someone that had travelled with him earlier in Mossdale, the one Dante' suspected to be a Holy Man. Dante' gestured the women. The Man studied them a minute then gave a quick shake of his head in Dante's direction. Satisfied, Dante walks over to the bench. "I am sorry if I have offended you, but as a Hand of Mundus it is my duty to look into these sort of things." Eahmil raised her head from Treena's shoulder and wiped a few tears away. "You are a Hand of Mundus?" she asked. "I am, from The Left" replied Dante. Eahmil walked closer to Dante' and give a polite nod. "I too am a Hand of Mundus from the Left." Dante stares dumfounded for just a few seconds thinking that he really needed to check in at Sinistrum more often. It was right then and there that Dante' realized what he must do. If this young girl would have him he would be her teacher and teach her the ways of magic and the teachings of Mundus.

I have a very weird and specific problem here.

This is how it all began. Time Warner runs my internet connection and it stinks. Like they have many times in the past, it went down yesterday. I woke up in the morning to first find this out and the internet stayed down til 7pm.

With the internet back on, I jumped onto Sundren. But another problem arose...of course.

When I play the game, it runs fine for about 10-20 mins, they all of a sudden it just starts getting choppy. It's not regular lag, where it freezes for a moment then moves on in erratic fashion. It's a steady pace of choppiness.

It's not just this game either. I tried two other online games and the exact same thing happens. The latency looks normal and does not seem to be the problem.

I'm practically illiterate when it comes to computers so I have no idea how to fix it and it's such a specific, weird problem that I don't even know what keywords to put into a search.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

My bard (Adeline) has been working for the Arbiter's Alliance under the direction of the Tormites in the House of the Triad, but she's not a a Torm worshiper, so joining their faction isn't possible yet (maybe in the future if a PC converts her). I also have no interest in Corps de Grace.

But I've heard that joining the Arbiter's Alliance directly is possible with DM help. Is this true, and could I get help to achieve this if so?

Until then, the delicious dungeon banners continue to taunt my bardess.
